Do you have to deposit money into a checking account to keep a debit card?

I've heard that in order to have and use a debit card, you have to insert money regularly into a checking account. Is this true?

Also, is there a minimum age requirement for a debit card?|||17 usually, it's not that you have to regularly deposit money, think of it as a prepaid card, you can't spend what you don't have|||A debit account is a checking account from which you withdraw money directly. No money in the account, no money for you. In order to use any checking account, you have to keep putting money into it.

As for the age limits, you have to ask your bank.|||Yes you have to put money in the account. That is were the money comes from when you use the card.
