What banks allow minors to get a debit card?

I am 16 years old and i have a job. I recently opened a checking account but they wont let me get a debit card until im 18. Does anybody know any banks that do allow minors to get a debit card?|||none, because you have to be 18 years old to enter into a legal contract. A credit card application is a legal contract.|||Bank of america|||There is a bank in Cherry Creek (Denver metro) Colorado called Young American's Bank and it does...don't know where you live but you might check them out and since you're employed get some help there.|||Bank of America does not...I work there.

Rules about this are set by Visa and Mastercard. Neither Visa nor Mastercard allow minors to have a card with their logo on it. Does that mean that it never happens? Hardly.|||If you're in The UK then Lloyds TSB have an under 19's account and they provide you with a debit card providing you are over 16.|||None that I can think of.|||Since you are a minor and cannot be legally held responsible for debts, the bank - any bank - will not issue you a debit (or credit) card.

Once you turn 18, you are no longer a minor and are considered to be responsible (and liable) for all debts contracted.

What Reasons are there to have a debit card linked to you PayPal Account?

What Reasons are there to have a debit card linked to you PayPal Account? just wondering since theres an option to add a debit card i was just wondering why someone would.|||I have a PayPal account linked to a debit card. Parents won't let me use their credit ( just for safety wise, since they don't trust internet shopping) so i was planning a trip to the bank if i could get a debit card, but was told you have to be like 18 to get one.|||You can get a debit card if you're under 18 as long as your parents authorize it. Can I use my boyfriends Debit Card to make purchases with his permission?

Okay so about 3weeks ago my debit card broke and since then my boyfriend said that I could use his.

But is it legally correct for me to do that? I haven't used his card yet but I really need to buy somethings and hes going to be working when I plan to buy my stuff. We have the same bank so I would transfer him money after my purchases.|||If your boyfriend gave you his debit card and the PIN then it is perfectly fine for you to use his card.

You will not have to sign the receipt... because when you use the card with the PIN it means you have legal permission to do so.|||You can use the card as long as you have the pin..but if you run it as debit you will also have to sign his name. It is illegal to use someone else's card - only the card holder is legally allowed to. Not only that, you will have to forge his signature which is also illegal. If you run the debit card as credit you will not have to sign anything (in most cases) but is still illegal.

Can you use a debit card to check into a hotel?

Next summer, my friends and I want to go on a road trip, and were wondering if you can use a debit card at hotels. Yes, we will be going to another state, and we want to know if they'll accept it, and is it a good idea? Any major risks?|||As long as it has a visa or other credit card logo you can use it.|||Yes, hotels/motels will accept debit cards as payment. Keep in mind that hotels/motels put holds on funds more than twice the room cost. This is to cover "incidentals. When you actuall check out, you will just be charged the actual costs. But, in the meantime, the cash in your bank account will be tied up in the hold. That's why it is much better to use credit cards for hotel/motels. Stroll into a bank and shout "Yo! I need a debit card!"?

What is the formal process?|||If you already have some sort of account with any bank, then I suggest applying for a debit card with the same bank. It will allow you to make transactions between cards much more easily.

Once in a branch, an employee should stroll over to you with an upturned nose and ask if they can be of assistance. If the employee has brown or yellow skin and is shouting at you from over a counter, then you are in KFC.

Say to them, 'Hello, without further ado I would like to apply for a debit card.''

To which they should reply something along the lines of, ''Okay then sir, please follow me.''

You will be taken to a desk, asked some relevant questions and be given forms to fill in. You will have to provide information such as your name, age, address, phone number etc.

Once this procedure is complete, you are free to leave. The card should take no more than 10 working days to reach you as it takes time to print and deliver your card.

Upon receiving it, you should take it to a cash point and change your PIN#, using the 4 digit code sent to you in a separate envelope. ift Card Question - Using Visa or American Express Gift Cards on PayPal

Have you tried using a prepaid gift card like Visa or American Express gift card on PayPal and it was rejected? The problem may be that PayPal was unable to verify your address with the card issuer.

One of the most popular gift card questions online is whether one can link prepaid gift cards like the Visa gift card to a PayPal account. The short answer is Yes and No. Now, the long answer: Yes, it is possible to link a prepaid gift card like the Visa or American Express gift card to a PayPal account but for this to happen, you need to pray and hope that PayPal does not require you to go through their Expanded Use verification process. To better understand why, you first need to be familiar with the process for linking a credit card to a PayPal account. When you link your credit card to a PayPal account, PayPal will attempt to confirm your address with your credit card company. If the credit card company is not able to confirm your address, then you may be asked by PayPal to complete their Expanded Use enrollment process in order to activate your credit card.

Expanded Use verification means PayPal will charge your credit card a small about. Next to the charge will be a unique, randomly generated 4-digit Expanded Use code. If you have online access to your credit card activity, the charge and code will appear on your card activity in approximately 2-4 business days. If you do not have online access, you must wait until you receive your statement in the mail to get the 4-digit code. If you are adding a debit card to your PayPal account, your 4-digit Expanded Use code will be printed on your bank statement next to the charge. Once you get the 4-digit code, you have to return to your PayPal account to enter the code per instructions from PayPal. Once completed, and PayPal confirms that you entered the correct code, you will now be able to use the card for PayPal transactions. The Expanded Use verification process is designed to protect you against fraud by verifying that the person attempting to use the credit card actually owns the card. PayPal will later credit the amount charged to your card to your PayPal account.

Now, here lies the problem with using prepaid or bank issued gift cards. If PayPal is unable to verify your address with the gift card issuer, then you may be asked to go through the Expanded Use process. Since most prepaid gift cards do not issue monthly statements or provide online access to gift card transactions, it will be impossible to complete the Expanded Use process. Also, it is not a good idea to call the credit card or gift card issuer to get the 4-digit Expanded Use code. If PayPal receives a complaint from your card issuer that you called them to get the 4-digit code, PayPal will close your account permanently.

So, the first step to attempting to use a prepaid gift card on PayPal is to make sure the name and address (billing address) on your PayPal account matches the name and address on file with the gift card issuer. If you just purchased your prepaid gift card, call the card issuer and add your name and address to the card. If your information (name and address) has changed since you registered your card, call the card issuer or go online and update your information before you use the card on PayPal. Once this is done, you just have to hope that PayPal is able to successfully verify your address with the gift card issuer. If they are able to verify your address, then you are all set. If they cannot verify your address with the card issuer, then you probably will not be able to use that gift card on PayPal.

okay if you gone though all those steps

then you can to the paypal website and see where it says add funds

thats where you can transfer money from the card to your paypal account

So I lost my debit card and I am forced to write checks for a little bit. I have a question?

I lost my debit card while traveling and my bank is going to take 4 days to mail me a new one. I was just wondering why so many places that use a check verification service wont accept any out of state checks. If the machine is telling them the check is good, who cares where it comes from? Any ideas?|||Because when the machine says it is good it is saying that you currently have money in your account. Doesn't matter how much just as long as you have enough to cover the check. If they take the check and you pull all of the money from your account it is harder to track an out of state check so the store has a higher chance of losing their money.|||my guess is khuz they might be worried.. ( they as the company themselves) that it might boucne.. even though it says it's a good check...|||It is too hard to track you down if the check bounces. There may be enough in the account today, but not enough to cover the amount in 2-3 days when the check is processed.

I actually have not used a credit card before - I use checks and debit cards to pay my bills. I prefer to pay as soon as I make a purchase, but some merchants eg auto dealers want a credit history.|||you answered your own question. Using a debit card uses your own money from your own account. When someone checks your credit history they want to make sure you are a good payer. so paying with a debit card does not prove anything and will not show up on any credit search|||ask your bank about services they provide to build your credit up. You are using money that you already have available in your checking account. To get a credit history, you need so show that if you borrow money, you will pay it back.|||Because a debit card is just that, a debit card, if you don't have the cash to back you don't get it. There is no credit involved. If you have utilities you have a credit history so having a credit card is not compulsory but it will help immensely. The more credit you have available to you, that is not being utilized and the longer you've had those accounts, the better you credit report will look.|||what you have established is not normal credit but substitute credit. it can be equally as good but not accepted as much. since you show a history of bringing money in and if you can show proof (bank statements) you should be able to be financed through you bank, that is your best bet. check with your bank to see if they offer a credit/debit card. it works the same as your debit but it also build your normal credit.|||America does not force you to go into debt to buy a house, car, etc.

The reason for needing good credit to make larger purchases is because the population has grown so much and people move around a lot more. Its not like it was decades ago where you could go down to the local bank and get a mortgage based on how well the loan officer new you or of your reputation. No one knows anyone anymore.

The purpose of credit is to show that you have the financial discipline to show that you can borrow money or be extended a line of credit, and you will make payments on time and not default on a loan. It is the banks way of knowing whether you are trustworthy or not.

The best way to make this work for you is to get a credit card or two, use them and pay them off monthly. You'll build a good credit standing over time and banks will love to lend you money.

The alternative is to get someone with a good credit standing to co-sign your loan.|||Because America is a greedy corporate country intent on forcing you to have credit just so you can go into debt trying to buy a house, car, etc..

I only want debit, not any credit.|||You can pretty much use any one that you want but you will have to give PayPal your routing number and account number and PayPal will deposit two small amounts in your account. It takes from 2-3 days for them to make the deposit. It is possible to cancel a credit card transaction. What about debit card transactions, can they be cancelled?

I bought furniture that has still not been delivered and I want to cancel and buy it elsewhere. It's been 6 weeks. They said 6 weeks. Can I cancel a debit card transaction?|||Sure you can......

contact the company your buying the furniture from first, and let them know you are ery upset and cancelling the transaction, and they better issue you a refund right away.

rant and rave to them and tell them how lousy you think they are because they dont follow through - if its a local company go right to them, demand them to credit your credit card account

and then contact your bank and cancell the transaction out|||Of course you can call bank and have it cancelled BUT, notify the store first. Check contract CAREFULLY.|||You do have the option of disputing the transaction with your credit card company. But first you must contact the merchant, and ask them why you have not received merchandise, and let them knowo you expect a credit to be put back on your credit card. How do I change my bank account/debit card on Amazon?

How do I change my back account and debit card information on Amazon? I switched banks and got a different debit card, and I'm having trouble seeing what I need to do on the site.|||Go to Amazon.com and click on Your account in the upperish right hand corner. On the left you will see headings, look under the Payments box. Click "add a credit card" and fill in your information. Then go to "manage payment options" (should be the first one) and delete the old one.

Why would anyone use a credit card instead of a debit card?

Why would anyone use a credit card, when they could be super cheap for a couple of months and from then on actually HAVE the money that they're spending using a debit card?|||A couple of reasons. Firstly, there are no surcharges for using your credit card, within reason. You usually get charged for just having a debit card, and even more for using it more than you should. Usually the interest you have to pay on a credit card, if the amount isn't massive, is reasonable.

Secondly, credit cards used correctly build credit. Debit cards cannot do this. The real world needs a your credit report for you to do big things: buy a house, a car, etc.

Thirdly, you need a credit card to do basic things such as: reserve a hotel, shop online (mostly), rent a car, get a cellphone plan, etc.

I agree with what you're saying. Using cash only does have it's benefits. Credit card abuse can be an ugly thing. But used wisely, and keeping the balance low, you can use one to your advantage.|||A financial guru -

First you have to have some money in the bank to use a debit card

Second - if you're broke and no money in the bank you use a credit card

Third - No one WANTS to be super cheap -it's totally UN-AMERICAN|||30% of us carry what the cc companies disparagingly call "convenience cards." We already have the money in the bank (or are sure it will be there, thanks to a good job) when the bill comes due, at which time we pay it off in full every month. In the meantime our money in the bank is earning interest and we are earning bonus points or rebate dollars while not worrying about debit card overdrafts. Sometimes we get special offers and discounts related to the cc.

Plus everything the others said.

Almost everyone accepts Visa and Mastercard, so if you have one of those you should be fine.

What happens if i made a mistake in an online debit card transaction?

I recently bought sunglasses online with my debit card and put in the right card number but wrong 3-digit security number. I thought the order would just not go through but it has and i can't cancel or edit it. On the tracking thing it says the order is being shipped and everything is fine but i'm concerned as to what is going to happen? Will everything just work out and the 3-digit security number is only for i have a security number or what?|||Don't worry. What would make the magnetic strip to work on a debit card?

My sister is having a problem with her debit card and we don't know what else would work to fix it? Anyone have suggestions?|||Sometimes putting a plastic bag over the card helps it read, but this is only a temporary measure. Those strips get messed up sometimes. Her bank will issue her a new one if she calls and tells them it is worn out.|||Just call the bank and ask for a new card. They wear out and it ain't worth fixing.|||Plastic works.

I gave someone my debit card number but not the 3digit code or pin and they used it is that illegal?

I have the debit card in my possession. They only had the debit card number and expiration date. But in order use the number you have to have the pin or 3digit code. How could they have used my card without all the information.|||You don't need a pin code or 3-digit code to use it. I know Bankwest has a debit card but I'm with Commonwealth Bank and don't wnt to change over. Can I just get a debit card with Bankwest and put money on it as I see fit? Will it be expensive?

I'm in Australia.

Cheers!|||if you work you can,|||You have a couple of options

What you're looking for is called a debit card, or a card that is linked to the money in a bank account as opposed to a line of credit.

Normally you would have to have an account at the bank to use a card. Therefore the simplest, most secure option would be to open a seccond account at the bank which offers a debit card feaure.

Additionally, a trip to wal-mart or Walgreens could benefit you

Recently such services have been made available by companies such as Green Dot, as well as MasterCard and Visa, which allow you to have what is essentially a prepaid credit card.

They work very simply:

you purchase a card for a nominal fee, generally around $10. Then you tell the clerk at the store (walgreens and wal-mart both sell them) how much you would like to add to the card. You pay the cash for that amount, and the clerk adds the amount to the card.

You can also add money to the cards at several locations, including the store where you bought the card, any OTHER store which sells the cards, an any location with a coinstar kiosk, which will allow you to pay cash, credit or coin to add money to your card.

This service includes many benefits, including security in that these cards often carry free insurance against theft or loss.

Hope this helps!|||here is the link for bankwest.

Does a store have to pay for unauthorized debit card purchases?

Say a debit card is stolen and used at a store. Who has to pay for the charges made on the card?|||Your bank will backcharge the merchant. It is then the merchants problem. Im trying to buy something online with my debit card because I know it's possible, but there's no card verification number or expiration date on my card and it won't let me continue without them, help?|||Does your debit card have a logo from Visa or Mastercard (or other credit card type)? If not, then you most likely will not be able to purchase online with just a debit card - and frankly you wouldn't want to! Debit cards utilize a PIN that you are not to give to anyone else, for your protection.

If you do not have a logo, you can ask your bank to add one, and they will issue a new card.

thanks!

Also what does it mean when people say its not safe to use a debit card online, because i just wanna shop at the online store for hollister, so how is it not safe?|||There are some smaller sites that don't process Debit cards, but most do.

They are processed just like credit cards, but to protect yourself you should check your bank account daily and Immediately report any fraudulent activity to your bank. Unlike Credit Cards the money comes directly out of your account and your liability in $ increases the longer it takes before you report it.

Check with your Bank for what you are liable for in case your debit number is used, and what steps you need to follow.

Also check into prepaid Credit/Gift Visa cards, your bank might sell them or you can pick them up at a Mass Retailer like Walmart, Kmart, etc. Since these are preloaded with the amount you pay for they are not like the standard revolving credit account and you cannot spend more than what is on the card.|||i was 16 with my debit card i still have now. It works like a credit card though so you just put the numbers in on the website and it'll charge your account.

Its the same thing basically Just you can only spend what you have in your bank or you'll overdraft.|||Yes you can|||Well, you can use paypal.|||hehe dudette of course, debit/ cedit are tweh same ecept u dont get charged intrest when u use ur besbit lol. go buy stuff! lol

Why does the bank want you to choose the credit option when you use your debit card?

If the bank makes more fees (from the merchant) on debit transactions, why are they pushing customers to always choose the credit option when they use the debit card? I received a new debit card today that didn't include a PIN number, nor a way for me to set one up. It just instructed me to always punch "credit" and sign for it.|||Unless you're taking money out of the ATM, you should never ever use your PIN. Like your bank instructed, always use the credit option when using the card.

When you use the PIN, it leaves you more vulnerable to theft. If someone watches you input your PIN, then steals your card, they can clean out your bank account.

When you use the credit option, it affords you the exact same protections as if you were using a Visa/Mastercard credit card.|||Last time I checked you get the card through the mail in one envelope and a few days later they mail you info with your preset PIN number. I don't know of any bank that's ever "pushed" anyone to choose a credit option, especially the way their every move is regulated so much more these days. I have known of smaller (seedier) retailers telling customers to "push the credit button anyway" so presumably their fee is smaller but never seen a bank tell instruct a customer to select one type when it really isn't...that sounds more like something you've been told by someone around you. I've had coworkers tell me about using debit cards at gas stations selecting credit for whatever reasoning they have in their head-presumably this works for some. Me, I avoid debit cards altogether since a credit card gives me an extra layer of safety in case it's stolen. My bank accounts are sacred and I don't allow anyone to have access to them either through debit cards, ATM cards, instant transfer to merchants or even online 3rd party payment companies. Everything goes through my credit cards first THEN I initiate a payoff to each when and how I want.|||Hi! You are almost right. With debit cards the bank only receives a small fee (the merchant fee for debit), with credit card they receive a larger free. So it's in their interest to make you want to use credit. Actually it's more secure anyway because they can verify the signature and check your ID. With my bank they charge a fee for debit (25 cents). I know it's not much but it sure adds up so I always use credit if I can avoid it.

You asked about PIN, you don't actually get to choose it, they send you PIN in a separate letter. Then they have a phone number you must call in from your home phone number. You verify your account, then at that time they give you the option to change the PIN. Good luck!|||Debit processing may only cost the merchant about 1%

Credit can cost the merchant between 1.5% and 5%.

Credit processing is much more profitable for the banks and visa and master card.

I asked my bank for a debit card with no visa logo on it.

This way it forces me to enter a pin.

For this you must have a credit card handy since some stores "very few" don't have a pin keypad for your pin based (debit) purchases..

Note: This is a checking account bank card? No pin?

Call your bank and ask them how you would make ATM withdrawls.

Note: My bank will not allow me to take money out of the ATM without entering a pin...|||For small transactions, debit is more expensive; for large transactions, credit is. Many stores know EXACTLY when this crosses over and encourage you to use debit when it's cheaper.

I will use debit IN THE STORE, but not outside at a gas station. Theft of the PIN is easily done at the pump.|||They do not send the pin number and the card in the same letter. The should send a pin number in the mail within the next week. Just use the credit button for now.|||true

I do not have a checking account do i have to tell them i have a prepaid debit card that my work deposits my payroll check in? It is another state TExas, and I live in Missouri.|||It's not a checking account, but it is part of your assests. They'll ask if you have a checking account, you say no, but they may ask how you pay your bills. You need to disclose all assets when asked. Don't try to hide it. I'm not sure what you are going to court for, but just disclose everything when asked.

That's actually a cool way to get paid and pay your bills. You avoid any potential for overdraft fees there.

Good luck.|||Yes, you have to tell them.

How do I go about putting money on a prepaid debit card?

I'm getting my refund check here in the mail in about 2 or 3 days and I was wanting to put it on a prepaid debit card. I just want to know how I go about doing that and if it's a good idea or not.|||You go to the store where you purchased the prepaid debit card and add money to it. It has it's pros and cons...

Pros- you can use it like a credit card, meaning you can pay bills and buy stuff online

Cons- there are fees if you want to deduct cash from an ATM

Where can I cash out some money using a international debit card without fees?

I am from Norway and I just cash out some money from well fargo using my debit card. But my bank from Norway charge me about 25USD. Where can I go to cash out some money without the fee?

My current location is Houston.|||Go to the website for your bank in Norway. They should have a listing of international banks that they partner with. If they don't then you are just out of luck and need to find a new bank if you are going to travel a lot.|||You have to check with the card issuer in Norway to find out who their USA partner banks are.

I sympathize. Something similar happened to me in France. When I went to Italy I found out (in advance) that I could use my card in the ATMs from the Banco di Roma for a reduced fee.

I'm 15 and I would like to get a job when I turn 16. I like to buy things online and I'm tired of asking my parents to buy it for me and having them transfer money from my account to theirs. So when I get a job I would like to have a debit card for myself so "How old do I have to be?". Also, I have Chase if that helps. I will also need it for gas to put into my truck when I start driving as well.|||If you get a checking account with one of your parents on the account, you should be able to get one. If not, you can get a reloadable vVisa gift card that you can use online. Just be careful about saving for the future and not spending too much of that money. You need to save for a car, insurance and college.|||Well if you already have a bank account you should be able to get one now. Depending on your bank you might have to wait till you are 18. Do you have to deposit money into a checking account to keep a debit card?

I've heard that in order to have and use a debit card, you have to insert money regularly into a checking account. Is this true?

Also, is there a minimum age requirement for a debit card?|||17 usually, it's not that you have to regularly deposit money, think of it as a prepaid card, you can't spend what you don't have|||A debit account is a checking account from which you withdraw money directly. No money in the account, no money for you. In order to use any checking account, you have to keep putting money into it.

Why Credit card CVC number is visible and in contrast Debit card Pin number is secret?

Why the hell credit card 3 digit number is Open (visible) to all and the Debit Card 4 digit pin number is Secret (in-vissible)? what's the basic reason behind this difference? Is it not possible that I have a Credit card which has 3 digit CVC as secret as Debit card one? so that I have better control on the transactions from fraud?|||that's a very good question. The CVC is to prevent people from just stealing your credit card number only and trying to use it for transactions where they don't have the physical card present. It may be a good idea to make the CVC secret, but that would be another number you'd have to remember. It's just to prevent someone from using only your credit card number when they lack the actual credit card.|||for one thing, a pin number and cvc are two different things... both credit cards and debit cards have both pin numbers and cvc. the whole point of a cvc/cvv is to determine if the cardholder is actually holding the card when making phone or internet purchases. it's a further attempt to reduce fraud.

How can I change my Debit card details on paypal?

My debit card has expired and my bank have sent me a new one, how can i change my card number. When i go into "Edit debit or credit card information" it gives me the options of changing my address and expiry date. But my card number has changed aswell.

Thanks|||You need to add a new card with the new number, then delete the old one. PayPal won't allow you to delete the only account listed. You should also ask your bank WHY they changed the number. They normally don't change the number unless they suspect fraud. I am currently on at least the 5th expiration date on my card and still have the original number.|||I think you have to add the new card and then delete the old one.

When I go into paypal%26gt;%26gt;profile%26gt;%26gt; to edit/remove there is a yellow box to click on to "add card."|||Go to Your account go to preview go to add or edit your Credit Card Pick the one you want to Edit . What is the difference between an atm account and a debit card?

what types of accounts do i have to open ( i just got a checking account ) and what does a savings account do? what do i need to do to get a debit card?|||Savings account is for people to save up for the future, emergencies, retirement, etc. Its always a good idea to have money in the bank for a rainy day and for your future.

If you got the checking account then the debit card should arrive in the mail in 7-10 business days. The debit card is linked to your checking account. So that means that if you spend $20 at Borders with your debit card that money is drawn from your checking account.

With a debit card you can get money out of the atm and you can go use it anywhere that debit cards are accepted to make purchases like the movies, bookstores, grocery store, etc.

ATM cards are limited to the atm, you can't use them like you can use debit cards. You go up to the atm withdraw money with it and then use that money for whatever. But you can't use your atm card like you can use your debit card.|||To get a full debit card (not a limited-use one), you have to have the account for a while (some banks like a year, some are happy after six months), with money going into the account and out of it again (to show it's 'active') and with no overdraft.

At that point, you can write to the bank and ask for a full debit card and most banks will give you one. A debit card in theory lets you draw out the full amount that is in your account and no more. (By contrast, a credit card lets you spend money you don't have and pay it back).

An ATM card is any card that lets you withdraw money from an ATM. (In case you don't know, though I guess you do, an ATM is the machine set in the wall of various places that lets you get cash.)

A savings account gives you interest on the money that you put in there, but might require you to put a certain amount in each month and will probably not let you take money out easily. Some savings accounts need notice, 30 days, 60 days or 90 days, before you can take any of your money out. In other words, in return for paying a good rate of interest, the bank takes the money and doesn't let you get it back easily or quickly. The bank usually uses that money itself to make investments and as security against loans to other people.

Credit cards let you spend money you don't have, but charge a high rate of interest for doing it. However, sometimes there's an advantage to using a credit card and paying the balance immediately: for example, if you buy an item on a credit card, it will probably be insured in limited ways (check your paperwork to see what insurance it grants), letting you claim back the cost if an item arrives broken in transit. The the credit card will give you a monthly statement which, if you use the credit card only for business expenses, can make it quicker and easier to claim expenses. Otherwise, though, they are more hindrance than help.

I help this information is useful to you.|||ATM account means that you can draw money out of the bank's ATM (not other bank's ATMs, just theirs).. A debit card draws money out of your savings or checking account (depending on how you have it set up) and sometimes acts as a credit card too (again, depending on how you have it set up). Savings account is an account that draws interest, whereas most checking accounts don't. Getting a debit card depends on the bank's rules and regulations.. you'll have to inquire with them on this one (mostly though, you have to be at least 18 years old)..|||A checking account holds the money that you spend when you use your checks or debit card. A savings account is money that you can't touch, until you transfer it to your checking account. You also gain a little bit of interest on the money you have in a savings account, depending on how much you have stashed in it.|||ATM cards can only be used to take money out of an ATM.

Debit cards can be used like a credit card and used to buy things online and at the store, etc.

Savings accounts are interest bearing accounts but you don't write checks on them.

As to getting a debit card, most banks will ask you if you want one when you get your account. Bank of America did with me.|||In a checking account, u can get a debit card, but u do not gain any interest. In a savings account, u can't get a debit card, but u can get interest. I still prefer getting a checking over a savings because u will not get alot of interest!!!|||ATM cards can only be used to take money from an ATM. debit card can be used just like a credit card or to take money from an ATM.|||they'll issue that.

Where can I cash out some money using a international debit card without fees?

I am from Norway and I just cash out some money from well fargo using my debit card. But my bank from Norway charge me about 25USD. Where can I go to cash out some money without the fee?

How long does a refund take to go onto a debit card?

I recently received a refund for something I purchased on my visa debit card, it was refunded via the same payment method and I was just wondering how long it should typically take to go back into my current account as cleared funds?|||3-5 business days is normal.|||I have a visa debit card and received a refund and took about 4 days. Some place charged me twice for the same thing by accident, and I noticed it on my bank account online the next day. I called the place as soon as I discovered the problem, and they fixed it right away, and the money was in my account about 4-5 days later.|||Connor.

American Express is not accepted as widely as Visa or Mastercard.|||Go with whatever debit card your bank offers. Debit cards usually do not offer rewards. If there are such programs, you options would be very limited.

Can a debit card be used for online purchases just like a credit card?

I opened a checking account a week ago and im still new to the stuff and im about to get my debit card, can a debit card be used for purchases on the internet just like a credit card?|||Yes, as long as it has the Visa/MasterCard logo on it.|||Yes if it has a Visa or MasterCard logo on the front. However even though can be used like a credit card, it debits your account, you are not extended credit, and it may take a couple of days before you will see the debit in your account.

What is the difference between a credit card and a debit card?

i understand that a credit card is money that you do not have and debit is money that you do have, but do you have to pay interest in both? is one of them like paying with invisible cash? lol|||A debit card deducts money directly from your checking account, usually with one or two days, and it will be the full amount of the purchase. With a credit card you are using borrowed money and you pay that back at the end of the month or in installments. You will pay no fees with a debit card.|||A credit card you pay after you purchase something and pay for later

A debit card is tied to your checking account and money is instantly withdrawn from you checking account. If you use a debit card make sure the bank shuts off the automatic overdraft protection or you will rack up overdraft fees if you happen to not have enough money in the account. The card will be declined at the merchant and the Bank will not take $25.00+ every time you don't have enough money in your account. That would be the invisible money you see flying out of your account.

There is no interest associated with a debit card as you are paying instantly.|||You do not have to pay interest on a debit card because it is using your money that is already in your own established account; whereas a credit card is like using "borrowed money" that you have to pay back with interest. I personally got rid of all of my credit cards because of the high interest attached to them, and the ease of use that can lead to over-spending. My personal choice is a debit card through my local bank.|||You do not pay interest on debit purchases. You are correct in saying it is like paying with invisible cash. The beauty of debit is that you do not have to pay the money back. It is money you already have in your pocket. (ok well bank account. not really your pocket.) The other great thing about a debit card is that, if you have a VISA or Mastercard logo on it, you can use it as a credit card as well. Meaning that , yes, the money still comes out of your account, but you have all the protections of the Visa or Mastercard credit card companies. That is why they always ask you "Credit or Debit" when you make a purchase. Forget the actual credit cards. Just use your debit. Too many people have gotten themselves way too far in debt using credit cards. They pay billions of dollars in interest and can barely make the minimum payment. Do not go down this road. If you are asking this question, I assume you are pretty young. Please learn about all the dangerous pitfalls of personal finance before jumping into the world blindly. I do not say this with the intent of demeaning you. I just want people to avoid the pitfalls that I have been through and help them to avoid my mistakes. Please read a couple of books. They are exceptionally insightful. The first is a book called The Millionaire Next Door by Tom Stanley. This is a study of how people who have accumulated wealth and kept it got to be that way. The people who are the typical millionaire may surprise you. They are not the ones who live in the 8 million square foot house and have planes and boats and cars ant toy. Yes there are some like that, but the typical millionaire drives a late model car and lives in a modest home. The other book is called the Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. This is a great book on how to set your life up from a personal finance perspective. You must live on less than you make, avoid debt, and invest and save. You must save for things instead of just running out and putting them on a credit card and going into debt.

If you are younger, as I suspect, these books will do wonders for you in your financial life. You may not have much now, but in the future, you will be very well off. Please read them and get yourself set up. I wish I had read them 30 years ago. My life would be so much different now.

Please read the books. Get yourself set up on a good financial plan. Talk to people and educate yourself. Talk to old people with money who have kept it. Do not get financial advice from your broke in laws. I do not take financial advice from people who are broke. Talk to your banker. Find a good financial planner and talk to them. Dave Ramsey's website has good leads to people who can help you. It does not cost anything either. They are people who understand and follow his financial advice. Get educated. Live on less than you make. Pay cash (or debit) for things. Have a rainy day fund. Invest and win. Have a plan and stick to it and win.

Good luck. I wish you the best.

Debt is dumb. Cash is king. Debt is normal. Be weird.|||credit card allows you to spend as much as you want and then the company bills you at the end of the month. debit pulls money directly from your account.

if you are looking to use one, i recommend a debit so you cant put yourself in debt. if you dont have money you will be declined.|||I don't think there's an interest charge on debit cards as long as you use it. There is only interest rates on credit cards if you don't pay the entire bill when it comes.|||Your debit card does not charge interest because it is your money. But they do let you spend a little extra but charge you $35 per transaction (ouch!)

How do you add Microsoft Points using a debit card?

I tried using my debit card info when adding a payment option but XBOX 360 wouldn't authorize it. Do they only accept credit cards? What's the deal?|||Works fine with me, i have a Debit card, i just put in my details and was able to start purchasing stuff straight away, im in the UK but i dont think that has anything to do with it, make sure all your details are correct, and try going to Microsoft Billing instead of doing it on your console and sign in with the email attached to your Gamertag and go to add another payment option and put your card details in and save, if it works the option to pay with that card should be available when buying points or subscriptions on your xbox 360, i dont see why it would work for me and not for you unless you have billing violations associated with your account|||Nope.

It HAS to be a credit card.

Trust me I've tried...

Why cant you create a paypal account with a debit card instead of a credit card?

I only have a debit card do you really just need a credit card for a pay pal account?|||A debit card can only be used at a bank to withdraw money. A check card is a card from the bank that you can use to make purchases online and at stores. What you really need is a check card.

Can having your debit card decline adversely affect your credit rating?

Does simply the aspect of going to make a purchase and getting your debit card declined for a larger amount than whats in your bank account adversely affect your credit score? Because I had 200 dollars in my debit card but I was trying to make a purchase for like 205$. Do you see this affecting my credit?|||No, it's a Debit Card, Not an Credit Card!|||No - its a debit card, not a credit card.|||the fact that you are near your credit limit is already negatively affecting your score. - you need to keep balances under 30% of the limit or it starts whacking your score|||No not at all....it will ruin your standing with your bank though

How can I purchase products online from the Apple Store with a debit card?

I don't have a credit card and I don't know how to put in my debit card info into my Apple account. There's only a "Credit Card" option. How do I put my debit card info into my Apple account? I also have an iTunes store account as well. Please give me step-by-step instructions. Sorry. Thanks.|||Just put your debit card information in as if it were a credit card, it will work just fine. (You can do this at the grocery store, too, if you'd rather sign than insert your debit PIN.)

Do checks still work with deactivated debit card?

I had to deactivate my debit card because it was stolen, can I still use checks from the same account number? Or is my whole account temporarily frozen until I get a new card?

I wish we lived in a country where you were publicly flogged if you get caught stealing.|||Your checks will work just fine.... because they draw money from the account.

Only problem.... who takes checks anymore?

The number on the debit card is not your checking account number. So when they deactivate the debit card it does not affect your checking account. The only thing that happens is that the stolen, deactivated debit card can no longer access your bank account.|||As long as your account is still active, you can write checks. You just can't use the old card. This is why debit/ATM cards do not contain your actual account number on them; if the card number is compromised, it doesn't compromise the actual account number.

How can I get my paypal balance sent to my debit card?

Does a debit card take money out of your check?

I bought a prepaid debit card from walmart a long time ago, and fought there was only 20 dollars on it. But then I realized it went over 20 and went to 50.

Is it taking money out of my pay check or bank account? I dont remeber giving out my credit card or bank account information to activate the card.|||If you did not give out your checking account info then there would not be a way to withdraw funds from that source. But if you have a checking account why are you using a prepaid debit card? Why not get a debit card that is linked to your account? Also, how would a prepaid card allow you to over spend by $30? I advise you get rid of the prepaid and just spend money you actually have.

Good luck

Can a parent tell when someone has used their debit card?

Okay, so let's say I get their debit card and order something online. What I want to do is pay for my college app fee online. If I use my Mom's debit card will she find out? If so, how?|||every transaction that happens on the debit card is recorded and they can tell where and when and what you have purchased|||Yes, i am a parent, every time the debit card is used the bank has a print out telling the date, amount, and where or what company the card was used for. It comes in the mail once a month on a bank print out or they can get online to see there checking account. the funds are taken out of there account as soon as the card is used so there going to know. if you don't tell them they wont know that money isn't in there right away and they could bounce a check then they will have to pay a fifty dollar charge. Not good for them. Honesty is the best policey|||yes. Everything will show on her bank statement. Why don't you just ask permission.|||Of course she will find out. The activities of a debit card are recorded, and the payee will show on her statement. How will you explain a charge to Jones University ?|||I hope it's a good college, because you are naive.|||as soon as i use my debit card, i can see that a purchase was made using my online banking (i mean the minute it was made it shows up). I used a debit card to pay for my Finnair flight, and Finnair states they do not accept debit card payment?

I booked a London to Beijing flight with FinnAir.

I payed using debit card, and it worked fine. I got my e-ticket/reciept, and they debited my account

the correct amount of money. So why does Finnairs terms and conditions state that they dont accept debit card payment, yet my transaction worked fine?|||Does your debit card have a MasterCard or Visa logo on it? If it does, than it is being treated as a credit card NOT for the reason the previous poster stated.....|||Your debit card isn't actually 'acting' as a debit card, but rather as a credit card.Yes, the money comes out of your bank account but the transaction is labeled as 'debit' for some reason. So think of the card as a debit card but it is used as a credit card. That is why when you buy things at your local supermarket, you can push 'cancel' and have it register as a credit card instead of putting in your PIN. The same amount of money gets deducted both ways.

When you buy something with a debit card from a checking account, is the purchase recorded?

If I was to buy something online with a debit card that is attached to my checking account, would the purchase be recorded, and be able to be reviewed? Or does the bank not aknowledge what exactly I'm buying.|||They acknowledge who the vendor is. So it will show a purchase from amazon.com and the price debited from your account but not necessarily what you bought.

When will a refund to a debit card post to my bank account?

A stored recently credited a refund to my Wachovia Debit Card. This took place Monday night. It is now Wednesday morning and the credit is still not showing up in my bank account.

How long should I wait? What should I do?

Hesitant to call Wachovia b/c they charge me for speaking to a human. Won't be banking w/ them much longer!|||It can take 3 to 4 working days. Good idea to change bank.|||It depends on the processing... with debit cards, if you paid by credit and signed a voucher, a merchant has up to 45days (i don't know if it differs between countries) to submit the transaction, which i think is the case since you said it was a small store.

If they deposited it in your account by normal means via bank account details it can still take up to 3 days-

Do you have the reciept which shows a credit? If so it should be in the processing stages and you should wait abit longer.

Otherwise I think you might like to try the store first at least they don't charge for an inquiry- Hope you see it soon.

What bank is most likely to give me a debit card?

I am a student and don't currently have a job but am looking to get a debit card to buy and sell stuff online. which bank is most likely to give me a debit card based on this?|||Best bank I have found is Natwest. They offer a good student account with a large overdraft (good for buying initially if you have little money) and it is interest free. You will get a debit card and usually a free 5 year young persons rail card which gives you a third of rail travel. Good luck.|||bank of america gives students 5 years of debit card use, and there's no minimum amount or fixed income necessary for your account, as long as it's not negative.

How is credit score calculated for debit card holders?

I've been overseas for many years and returned to the States less than a year (nine months) ago. When I came I had no credit history at all. Since then I've had a debit card (for a checking account with US Bank), on which I've made all my payments promptly, and I have no debt. Now I'm considering applying for a loan which would involve a credit check. Would I have a good or bad credit report?|||You still have no credit history. Debit cards do not affect your credit. The score is calculated exactly the same as if you did not have a debit card. You do not have a good or bad credit report. You have no credit report, and no credit score, and you will not be approved for a loan.

If My Bank Changes My Debit Card Number Will I Still Be Able To Use My Old Checks?

Hi, my bank recently changed my debit card number. Does this effect my checking account number and my checks. The checks have my checking account number on them, not my old debit card number, are the checks still good? If not, will Bank of America replace my old checks with new ones (it was their fault- they believe they may have compromised my debit card info.)? Thanks.|||No, your debit card number has nothing to do with your checking account number. They are simply linked, but your account number is the same, and your checks are still good. That is, of course, dependent on whether they changed your checking account number also, which they might have if your account was compromised. You should just call them. But if it was only the debit card number, then the checks are still good and the account number is still the same.|||youre account number is still the same, but if you dont trust me call your bank, which I recommend for your questions.

Because i know when you place a card that unlocks a hotel room next to a cell phone the card will no longer work so will the same happen to a debit card?|||Heh! What?! Of course not. I doubt that is true with the hotel key card, too. A magent, on the other hand, could, but how much they try to perfect everything and keep away any dangers now, it's unlikely.

the correct amount of money. So why does Finnairs terms and conditions state that they dont accept debit card payment, yet my transaction worked fine?|||If your debit card is affiliated with Mastercard or Visa, then it is considered a credit card by the airline, and it will be accepted for payment. If it is just a bank-issued debit card, with no major credit card affiliation, then most airlines will not accept those.

Know any sites that you can shop on with a debit card?

I am not a big fan of credit cards. So,I use my debit card for

everything.I was wondering if anyone knew what sites that you can shop with a debit card.|||That depends on your debit card.

Today, most debit cards on the market are backed by one of the major card associations - Visa or Mastercard. So look at your debit card. If you see either a Visa or a Mastercard logo on it, it means that every merchant which accepts a regular Visa or Mastercard will accept your card in the same way. And that's just about everybody!

However, be aware that if you make a purchase online with a debit Visa or Mastercard, and you experience fraud or have a problem with the good/service you receive, there is a somewhat higher burden of proof on you to receive protection from the card companies. You see, if the card company offers you a refund on a debit card, that's real money. You could close your account and walk away, and further action should the merchant be correct would not be possible. With a regular credit card, they're just authorizing you to exercise part of your credit - it's not actually cash. It's not a huge procedural difference, but there is a difference. So the best thing is to use a regular credit card if you're in any way uncertain about the company/person you're buying from.

Now, if your card doesn't have a Visa or a Mastercard logo:

Sorry, you're likely out of luck. You can go to PayPal, create an account with them, and hook up that account to your checking account; a number of merchants accept PayPal. However, that's likely the best you'll be able to do.
