How to dispose of a debit card?

Well I got an unemployment debit card from my work (from when I was working there). Now that I have left and am not receiving any more unemployment pay on it, how should I get rid of it? Can I just throw the card right in the trash or is there a safer way to do it? Thanks.|||cut it up into lots of pieces making sure that the numbers cant be fixed back together|||Cut it up and discard.
