Are debit and credit card numbers set up the same way?

I'm thinking of buying a prepaid/gift debit card from Visa for use online. I'm afraid the number would be rejected by sites if the number set up is different. So are the numbers set up the same way?

You should not be rejected as long as your credit is good. The Visa card will start with the number '4'. If not, then there may be a problem.
