The full question is, "How much could you be liable for if your debit card is stolen and you report it right away? What if you wait longer than 2 days?" Studying for test and dnt know the answer to this question.|||Each bank is different but they will generally cover up to 1,000 even if you wait 2 or more days.|||For my Visa card in India, if I immediately report the loss, my liability is restricted to
rs 1000/ only.|||It depends on the time taken for reaction by the company on blocking/freezing the card from making payments.
In some cases card holders tend to store their PIN in the mobile/ hand phone which may be stolen along with the card if both are kept in the same bag (hand bag of ladies), if this happens then it makes the job easy for the thief. Your balance will be off in a flash.
In some cases if the company is responsible for the delay caused then they may compensate partly or wholly which i'm not sure about.
If your PIN is an quite complicated combination then it will be difficult for the thief to crack your card.
Combinations like 2222,1111,1122,birth year should be avoided while setting PIN.|||it depends on what happens with the card. (assuming it's a visa or mastercard branded debit card).
If someone were to use it with your PIN, you would have to ask your bank what their policies are regarding this type of theft.
If someone were to use it as a credit card, and forge your name, you are protected by Visa and Mastercard's Zero Liability, and you aren't liable for anything.
